Giants place OF Schierholtz on DL (AP)

SAN FRANCISCO (AP)—The San Francisco Giants have placed outfielder Nate
Schierholtz(notes)
on the 15-day disabled list to make room for left-hander Eric
Surkamp(notes),
who will make his major league debut against the Houston Astros on
Saturday night.

The Giants must still make room for Surkamp on the 40-man roster.

Schierholtz, who expected the move, tested his fractured right foot Friday
and was still too sore to play. He fouled a pitch from Atlanta’s Tim Hudson(notes) off
his foot in the series opener with the Braves on Aug. 15.

Schierholtz played through it, then had an MRI during Monday’s off day. A CT
scan followed to confirm the fracture.

What are your opinions.

San Francisco Giants: 5 Creative Ways To Jump-Start the Slow Offense

Since Andres Torres has been on disabled list, the Giants haven’t attempted many steals, and Darren Ford is currently leading the team with only five.

Now that Torres is back, the Giants should look to attempt to steal quite often, because that is a great way to build momentum and it fits right in with their style of play.

Torres, Ford, Schierholtz and Burriss all have the capability to steal at least 10 bases in a season, and it would be a waste to see only one or two of them reach that mark.

Not only that, but the Giants have the speed and smarts to be able to turn singles into doubles, and reach third from first on any basehit. Even though it’s a bit risky, being more aggressive is a good way to jump-start any offense.

Gotta run!.
